At Linesight, were proud to celebrate Mental Health Awareness Week, observed from May 13 to 19, 2024, with a focus on the theme - "Movement: Moving more for our mental health".
Recognizing the powerful connection between physical activity and mental well-being, here’s what some of our global team members do to support their mental health.
Michael Brown, Head of Bidding, APAC:
“Movement is an integral part of my daily routine and work life, which involves swimming, running and Muay Thai. For me, training before work, typically at 5am, sets a positive tone for the day, enhancing focus and mental clarity. Being outdoors and surrounded by nature motivates me to stay active. Additionally, meditation and prioritising sleep plays an important role for me in maintaining overall mental equilibrium.”
Declan Furey, Associate Director of Cost Management, Europe:
“Yoga became an essential part of my routine when I moved to London seven years ago. At first, I found yoga to be extremely beneficial for my physical health, but soon discovered the wondrous impact it had on my mental well-being. Completing a 200-hour yoga teacher training program was my attempt to spread its positive impact among my peers. Yoga is my superpower! It grants me the space to slow down, manage stress and stay calm, amidst work challenges and the challenges of life.”
Sunjaay Athanki, Director Global Delivery Hub, APAC:
“Staying active is non-negotiable for me. My ideal weekly routine includes three days of HIIT (High-Intensity Interval Training), one day of running, and walking on other days to prevent routine fatigue. Running serves as my personal time to clear my mind and prioritize my work effectively. In our Mumbai office, we conduct NEAT (Non-Exercise Activity Thermogenesis) 'Stressbuster' sessions daily, which include stretching, meditation and more, to promote overall employee well-being and mental health."
Caoimhe Mulhall, Head of Marketing, Europe:
"I like to mix up different ways of incorporating movement into my day, whether it's hiking, walking, sea swimming, weight training or yoga. Prioritizing morning movement ensures I honour my commitment to self-care amidst any daily surprises. In 2019, I completed a yoga teacher training course, and one aspect of that training that still rings true is “movement is medicine. The positive feelings associated with incorporating movement are immeasurable. Therefore, regardless of how comfy your bed is or how much you would prefer to plop down in front of the TV, my advice is to give yourself that extra push and reap the rewards!"
James Hardin, Global Talent Acquisition Program Manager, Americas:
“Movement is my lifeline. Whether it's hiking through wild trails or losing myself in ecstatic dance, each step connects me deeper with my body and community. By prioritizing physical activity, I manage anxiety, stay present at work and uplift those around me. Small rituals, like stretching while brewing tea or taking phone-free walks, keep me balanced amidst a busy schedule.”
Emma Quinn, Commercial Manager, Cost Management, Americas
“Amid personal loss and life's challenges, running became my sanctuary. Whether stealing moments of tranquillity during the day or unwinding after work, it provided solace and clarity. What initially began as casual runs with friends quickly transformed into a passion, leading me to complete five marathons, including the London Marathon, which was the most recent. I believe it’s important we make time for ourselves, no matter what. For me, a run or a stroll after a hectic day is a non-negotiable mood booster, fuelled by the release of happy endorphins!”
